Uttarakhand has always been a challenging place to live due to its rugged terrain and remote geography. In Kumaon, accessing basic necessities, resources, and facilities often requires traveling long distances, making life in the hills tough. Farming has traditionally been the primary source of income for Pahadi people, as job opportunities nearby have been limited.  

Over the past two decades, many have migrated to cities in search of better jobs, facilities, and financial stability, selling off the lands their families cultivated for generations. This mass migration has led to the rise of ghost villages, leaving once-thriving communities abandoned. While the Uttarakhand government is actively working to address this issue, We at Tentit also wanted to contribute towards a sustainable solution.  

Instead of owning land, we operate our campsites on pre-owned lands through a financial return model. These lands, often semi-forested or located near forests, belong to local Pahadi families who have lived here for generations as farmers. This initiative helps them generate additional income, making it more viable for them to stay and sustain their livelihoods in the hills. By doing so, we aim to preserve the cultural heritage and support the flourishing of the Pahadi community.
